Map of France, highlighting Canet Sud's location

Canet Sud and the surrounding province

Area and location

Canet is historically very famous for it's fishing and for the natural wildlife that has made their home in the beautiful lake here. Canet has developed as a holiday resort since the turn of the 19th century. From this time, with its attractive villas, it quickly became the fashionable Mediterranean resort for the wealthy from nearby Perpignan and Pyrénées Orientales in general. Today it retains an elegance and calmness above many of its Mediterranean neighbours. Enjoy promenading along Canet’s beautiful sunlit beaches with the backdrop of the Pyrenees and the view down to Spain, is a summer evening custom for locals and holiday makers alike.

View of Perpignan old town The colourful and exotic city of Perpignan is just a 10 minute drive away or there is a bus service if you prefer. Dine and shop in the old city of Perpignan. It is hard to believe how anyone could want more from a city. It is full of sophisticated shops, restaurants, cafes, bars and music clubs. There are many interesting festivals held in the city during the year. The old quarter of this historic city is home to several multi-cultural food markets and is full of fascinating Catalan architecture. The icing on the cake is that, at almost every turn, the city is full of exotic palm trees. The surrounding countryside is very lush with rich vegetation, vineyards and many archaeological sights.

View of the mountains Languedoc Roussillon, The Mediterranean, Pyrenees and Spain. This is a truly superb region for any type of holiday you could wish for and at any time of the year. Roussillon is the sunniest part of France with approximately 320 days of sunshine a year, with autumn being a real treat and break from the colder parts of Europe. The region is rightly proud of its miles of uninterrupted beaches. Taking a riding lesson on the beach is a real treat.

The famous and beautiful Collioure, Ceret and, in Spain, Figueres are loaded with artistic history and captivating scenes that inspired 'local' painters like Picasso and Dali to make it their home. Here, the majestic Pyrenees wrap themselves around Languedoc Roussillon as they tumble into the Mediterranean sea, while sun-baked vineyards gently carpet the surrounding lush countryside.
